When my daughter was not quite a year old, she and I took a Kindermusik class together, and last year, we took Music Together. In both classes, we sang, we danced, we played a variety of instruments like shakers, drums, bells, and tambourines, (even kazoos), and we had a blast. My husband and I still sing to our daughter every night. She has her favorite songs (You are My Sunshine, Sleep Like a Baby Tonight, Somewhere over the Rainbow, Feeling Groovy, Yesterday) and is known to make requests. We have a basket of instruments in our living room and concert-parades throughout the house are a regular occurrence, as are dance parties in the kitchen. There is music playing at our house almost all the time, and we play everything from the Beatles to Beethoven to U2 to Taylor Swift. If you need some ideas, PBS Parents has some great tips on how to create a musical home environment for your little one. Recently, Talia has expressed interest in learning to play an instrument, perhaps piano or violin. With that in mind, we put together this list of music lessons for kids in Napa Valley. Information is varied, because in some cases, it’s a full-fledged music school/program and in others, it’s an individual teaching out of his home studio. It is by no means inclusive; in fact, we had a few who weren’t taking new students and requested not to be included, and there are others we just haven’t found yet. As usual, let us know if we’ve missed someone who should be added to the list!
