I don’t know about you, but we thought Halloween was canceled this year.  And it’s true, there are lots of guidelines about what we can and can’t do to celebrate one of our favorite holidays, but our community has gotten creative and figure out ways to enjoy the holiday while remaining safe. We share guidance for Napa County, the State of California and the CDC as well as a roundup of activities. As usual, please let us know if we’ve missed something.

Pumpkin Succulent Craft Event

Create a beautiful Pumpkin Succulent centerpiece to compliment your holiday décor! Individualize your piece to coordinate with your home and personal style. This event will be held outside. Register with a friend or come on your own.

Halloween House Decorating Contest

Why wait until Christmas? Let’s decorate our houses during Halloween for community members to drive around and enjoy. Submit a photo and home address. A map of spooky locations on will be posted October 30th to check out over the Halloween weekend. Please send entries to [email protected].

Virtual Halloween Pumpkin Contest
October 17-29
ONLINE (City of Napa)
Napa Parks and Rec invites you to participate in a virtual Halloween Pumpkin Contest.
1. Carve your pumpkin at home
2. Send a photo of the pumpkin with your name, age and email/phone to [email protected].
3. Judges will select a winner from four categories: ages 5-8, ages 9-12; ages 13-18, and ages 18+. Prizes will be provided for the winners and a slideshow of all of the entries will be showcased on social media on Halloween Day!

Día de los Muertos Community Art Project

In the tradition of its annual Día de los Muertos Celebration, Nimbus Arts has created a special art activity to honor those who have passed. Join Nimbus Arts for a spooky evening of mosaic making! They will provide all the supplies needed to create a happily haunting artwork for your home. Students will be guided through use of mosaic making tools, materials, and template use, ensuring spook-tacular results. They will handle the cementing and grouting for you so your mosaic masterpiece will be ready in time for Halloween!

Floating Pumpkin Community Exhibit
Thursday, Friday and Saturday, October 29, 30 and 31, 7:30-9:30 pm
Farmstead, St. Helena
Get your family and friends into the Halloween spirit by participating in the inaugural Nimbus Arts Floating Pumpkin exhibit.  That’s right, the entire community is invited to display your hand-carved pumpkins, “floating” fabulously on pikes throughout the bountiful Farmstead gardens. The goal is to have 200 solar-powered glowing and grinning pumpkins to artfully light up the Farmstead gardens! This magical pumpkin art exhibit will surely bring wonder, joy, and grins in celebration of Halloween and our community. Tickets are free but must be reserved on the half hour. No drop-ins. The City of American Canyon is hosting its very first community Trick or Treat Drive-Thru! Those distributing treats will be wearing masks and gloves. As you drive through, we ask that you be prepared to pop your trunk open for us so that we may place the treats directly into your vehicle. This is a festive, family-friendly event.

The Night Before Halloween Pumpkin Stroll

Take a self-directed stroll to view the glowing Jack-o-lanterns from the Pumpkin Carving Contest! Vote for your favorites! If you’re interested in participating in the Halloween carving contest, sharpen your knives and pull out your pumpkin carving skills.

Halloween Bike Parade

There may be no treak-or-treating this year, but that doesn’t mean Halloween is canceled! All ghosts, ghouls, and princesses are encouraged to ride in St. Helena’s inaugural Halloween Bike Parade. Join your neighbors and Parks and Recreation Department for a COVID-friendly costumed bike parade to celebrate Halloween and show off your creativity! This 1-mile family-friendly route will wind through neighborhoods so you can show off your costumes to the whole community.

Drive-Thru Trick or Treat
Saturday, October 31, 1-3 pm
Las Flores Community Center, Napa
Instead of traditional trick or treating, get dressed in your costumes, jump in your car and visit Napa’s drive-thru stations located at Las Flores Community Center (4300 Linda Vista Ave.), Napa Senior Center (1500 Jefferson St.), Century Oaks Park (Scenic Dr. and Douglas Ave.), the Napa Police Department (1539 1st St.), and Fire Station No. 1 (930 Seminary St.). Trick-or-treat goodies will be safely provided through windows.

Mask Car Aid! Halloween Cruise Night!

Since there is no trick or treating this year, some locals thought it would be fun to have a Halloween Cruise Night! Come on out to Jefferson Street (Trancas to Downtown). Decorate your car! Wear a fun mask! Wear a fun costume! We’ll be practicing social distancing and requiring masks when not in your car.
