One of the reasons I launched Napa Valley Kid (which is still a work in progress) is so many parents complained there was nothing to do with their kids in Napa. Every time I’d mention that my daughter and I were going to a play or concert – or had gone to a drop-in art class or storytime at the library – I got asked, “where did you find out about that?” The truth is, there was no one place and it took a lot of sleuthing on my part.
It brings great joy to hear from parents that they are utilizing our website to find things for their kids to do – and things to do with their kids. And it makes me equally happy to hear from community organizations that kids are attending their art workshops, dance classes and summer camps because they heard about it on NapaValleyKid.com. Our online calendar will continue to become more robust as more of our community partners take the time to add their events, classes and workshops to our free calendar. And I will continue to share what we find with you.
This weekend plays host to two of our favorite (free) annual events: Uke-a-Palooza at Oxbow Public Market and Porchfest in Downtown Napa. Uke-a-Palooza is Friday, July 29 from 6 to 9 pm and features a performance on the Oxbow River Deck by The Maikai Gents, Polynesian specials, and a raffle for V.O.I.C.E.S., plus guests are invited to bring their ukulele and perform. On Sunday, July 31 from noon to 6 pm, Porchfest returns. Local musicians perform on neighborhood porches in Old Town, the “alphabet” district and Alta Heights. This year features 64 porches and 122 performers, so make sure to download a schedule and a map (the map will also be inserted into Sunday’s Napa Valley Register.
Hope to see you at both of these great music events!
