April is National Gardening Month and we’re excited to start planting! Gardeners know, and research confirms, that nurturing plants is good for us: attitudes toward health and nutrition improve, kids perform better at school, and community spirit grows. Join the celebration and help to make Napa Valley a greener, healthier, more livable place! Plus, gardening is a great way to get your kids to connect with nature and eat more veggies! Not sure what to plant and when to plant it? UC Master Gardeners has a helpful vegetable planting calendar.

Big Ranch Farms
2046 Big Ranch Rd., Napa
Wed-Sun in April; Tues-Sun May-Nov | 10 am-6 pm
Owned and operated by Napa locals Mark and Teresa Haberger, Big Ranch Farms has been in business since 1994. In addition to their own farmstead on Big Ranch Rd., you’ll regularly find them at the farmers’ market where you can purchase freshly harvested vegetables. At the farm, they have a nursery of starter vegetable and herb plants and they offer starters for everything they grow, and more. Currently, they have lots of strawberries, some onions, beets and maybe artichokes if lucky (they are awesome…especially the purple ones). That’s all the edibles for now but lots more to come.
