You know summer is here and 4th of July is just around the corner when there is a county fair taking place just about every week throughout the Bay Area. The season culminates with our very own Town & Country Fair August 10-14. While all fairs have carnival rides, farm animals, performances, and more, each one is also unique to its community. Here’s our guide to fairs and festivals in Napa County and beyond.

Sonoma-Marin Fair (Goes Local)
Through June 26
Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds, Petaluma
The Sonoma-Marin Fair in Petaluma is famous for its World’s Ugliest Dog Contest where America’s homeliest hounds compete for the trophy, plus pig races, carnival rides, fair exhibits, a petting zoo, train rides, AgVentureland, and more.

Alameda County Fair (The Spirit of Summer)
Through July 4
Alameda County Fairgrounds, Pleasanton
The Alameda County Fair offers an impressive lineup of concerts featuring headliners like Tower of Power and Leann Rimes, plus carnival rides, competitions, horse racing, kid’s park, ag adventure, action zone arena, a 4th-of-July fireworks spectacular, and more.

Marin County Fair (What a Ride!)
June 30–July 4
Marin County Fairgrounds, San Rafael
This year marks the 75th Anniversary of the award-winning Marin County Fair, featuring carnival rides, farm animals, a global marketplace, competitive exhibits, pig races, cow milking, concerts and a nightly fireworks show.

Napa County Fair and Fireworks (Celebrate!)
July 4, noon–11 pm
Napa County Fairgrounds, Calistoga
Napa County’s annual fair is a one-day event that celebrates our country’s heritage with a classic parade through downtown Calistoga; nostalgic games, picnicking, activities at the fairgrounds, including carnival rides and an ice cream churnament; and culminates with a spectacular fireworks sky concert.

California State Fair
July 8–24
California Expo, Sacramento
The California State Fair features carnival rides, a livestock show and animal programs, horse racing, exhibits from each of California’s 58 counties, concerts, and some of the best food sampling at any county fair, including California cheese, honey, olive oil, and more, plus the family-friendly Dream Big where kids explore the possibilities of the Golden State, a cornhole championship, and an Independence Day Fireworks celebration.

Sonoma County Fair
July 22–August 7 (closed Mondays)
Sonoma Country Fairgrounds, Santa Rosa
The giant carnival has more than 50 rides, plus view the largest themed floral show in the west in the Hall of Flowers, enjoy an incredible display of livestock and agricultural education, live entertainment all day and night, delicious food, fun contests and more during the 80th celebration of the Sonoma County Fair. Fridays are Kids’ Days: children 12 and under receive free general admission all day, and kids 6 and younger are free every day.

Solano County Fair (Play it again Solano!)
July 27–31

Solano County Fairgrounds, Vallejo
Enjoy concerts, animal exhibits, carnival rides, a kids craft area, and more, including a family fun zone with pig races and Sadie’s Farm-tastic Adventure Show. June 28 is Kids Day, with free admission for children 12 and under.

Napa Town & Country Fair (Red White & Ewe!)
August 10-14
Napa Valley Expo, Napa
Daily entertainment and exhibits including a petting zoo, strolling puppet theatre, dinosaur experience and more. Livestock show arena where kids – and adults – show their animals. For the little ones, there’s Cub County, a kid-friendly zone with rides and amenities just their size.
