Earth Day (April 22) is the day to educate children — and adults — about the importance of keeping our planet clean. The annual celebration serves as a great opportunity to teach our children about being kind to the Earth and environment, but it’s also fun. Olivia’s mom and I are hosting the Earth Day celebration at our daughters’ school today. I stayed up late last night and made Earth Day cupcakes — although my blue (ocean) and green (land) blended together a little more than I would have hoped —  but the red hearts are pretty cute. We will be playing Earth bingo, making world necklaces out of Filo clay, and crafting reusable no sew t-shirt tote bags. The kids will enjoy a healthy — and yummy lunch — and we’ll make smoothies with strawberries, bananas, and spinach. We will also read books, including I am Earth; We Planted a Tree; The Three R’s: Reuse, Reduce, Recycle; and All the World. And then tomorrow (Earth Day), we will attend at least one Earth Day event as well as Connolly Ranch’s Earth Night.

Here’s a list of Earth Day events taking place in Napa Valley:

Designer John Collins outlines the physics and biology of flight following  the film Fly Away Home. Test your skills against his Harvard students by creating paper airplanes using John’s award-winning designs.

Connolly Ranch Earth Night Festival
Saturday, April 22, 5-10 pm
Connolly Ranch, Napa
Connolly Ranch is hosting its 3rd annual Earth Night, a springtime festival and fundraiser celebrating arts, music, movement and nature. There will be live music, movement performances including aerial acrobatics, dance, hooping and fire spinning, face-painting, yoga, farm activities, raffle, nature crafts, happy hour, food trucks, delicious wine and beer, farm tours, moonlit nature hikes, telescope for stargazing, onsite childcare and more! This year, there’s a new program: FarmFest for Kids. Kids will love having their own Earth Night adventure! They will spend time with our animals, enjoy seasonal crafts, have a picnic dinner and enjoy the farm under the care of our skilled staff. This means you’ll get a little time to eat and catch up with friends and still have plenty of time to enjoy music and fun with the whole family after you pick them up. (must be 3 and potty trained)
